Undecylenic acid is a topical medicines used in the treatment of fungal skin infections such as jock itch and athlete’s foot. It can also be used in the treatment of scalp or nails. It is a fatty acid that prevents the growth of fungus.
How to use:
Undecylenic acid is used on the skin only. The affected area is cleaned thoroughly and patted dry. Then this medication is applied to the affected skin, usually twice a day as described on the product package or by the doctor. Spread the medication nicely all around the affected area. Do not wrap or cover with bandage. Wash your hands well after application.
There are potential undecylenic acid side effects. Never apply undecylenic acid in the eyes, nose, mouth or sensitive areas. If you apply it accidently, wash with a lot of water. If irritation, redness or itching occurs, contact your doctor right away. Use this medication as long as directed by your doctor or as described on the product package. Do not stop this medicine unless advised. The reason is early withdrawal can allow the fungus to grow again, this may result in the return of the infection.
